LAW & ETHICS

I believe that the primary role of journalism is to hold people in power accountable, to ask the tough questions that execute change and to seek the truth. With this important principle come a large magnitude of responsibility. It is crucial that journalists act with the understanding that issues impact real people, and that improper reporting can leave the reputation of a person destroyed.

While keeping this in mind, a journalist should not shy away when there is truth that must be revealed. We as journalists have the significant privilege of creating real change. This honor entails a makes it imperative that journalists act accordingly.

Although all journalists must tell the truth, this does not meant that they cannot also have opinions.  However, it may not always be appropriate to express your unfiltered opinion. And in the instances where it is appropriate to express your opinion, you need to have sufficient information to support your opinion and the logic behind it.
