ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm

Adriana!

I am a senior at St. Joseph Catholic Scho
ol in Ma
dison, Mississippi, where I am the editor-in-chief of my school's award-winning newscast, Bruin News Now. I live in Madison with my mother, father, and two younger brothers. My parents are originally from Bolivia, and we love to travel as a family around South America.

I have been involved in the journalism program for three years. When I decided to enroll in my high school's broadcast journalism class, I was very intimidated by all those who had been in the class for so long. Everyone was so good at their job. I began learning and quickly
caught up. My advisor, Mr. Terry Cassreino, has played a large part in making the learning process easy and simple. Bruin News Now has helped me improve many skills such as writing, public speaking, on-camera performance, video editing, and so much more. These tools are essential for college and will be crucial in my adult life.

I quickly climbed the ranks in class and became the sports editor early on in my first semester. Later that year, I was promoted to news editorToday, I am the Bruin News Now sports director. I lead the Sports Broadcasting class, which produces "What's Bruin," a weekly Monday preview in sports on campus, and the weekly sportscast: "Bruin News Now Sports Report". I have tried every job at least once. I've anchored news and sports for our BNN weekly newscast as well as the BNN Midweek "Paws" midweek update and "What's Bruin". I also have made award-winning news and sports packages, and so much more - and all of it under the pressure of a deadline.

Along with journalism, I also am involved in many activities at school. I am captain of the tennis team, where I won the 2022 and 2023 5A South State Championships; co-chair of the the Sponsorship Committee for BruinTHON, the school's annual fundraiser that benefits Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital; a member of the school retreat team; and president of the Spanish Club. I have a 3.8 GPA, 31 on the ACT and am a member of  Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, of which I am president; Quill and & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists; Mu Alpha Theta; National Honor Society; Rho Kappa Honor Society and National English Honor Society. I am also a member of the Madison Civinettes, a service group in Madison County. I am a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison, where I am a part of the youth group, a minister of hospitality and a Eucharistic minister.
